With the cold winter days behind us, the time has come for everyone to make plans for the summer. One of the best ways to take advantage of the great weather is by attending a local festival. Luckily for those living in or around Wichita, Kansas, there are plenty to choose from this summer. Here are some of the most exciting.
2019 Wichita Riverfest
The famous Wichita Riverfest started almost half a century ago during Wichita’s Centennial Celebration in 1979, with the purpose of celebrating the community and getting community members together. It evolved over the years and is now one of the most fun festivals in the region. With nine days of fun events, it’s definitely also one of the longest. Over 100 events will take place over the nine days, from concerts and athletic competitions to kids’ corners and performing arts. Events and races will take place on the river as well. The festival’s nine days will be a blast.
A Night at the Fountain: Food Truck Event
Most festivals also feature food and beverages, but there’s something special about a festival that celebrates food. A Night at the Fountain: Food Truck Event takes place one day every month, from April to October, and features all of Wichita’s most popular food trucks. Set near Downtown’s WaterWalk Fountains, hence the name, it will also feature a bunny petting station provided by Bunny TNT, a nonprofit organization that focuses on the well-being of domestic rabbits. If you’re looking for a great variety of food set in a beautiful location, you shouldn’t miss this event.
Automobilia’s 25th Moonlight Car Show and Street Party
The 25th edition of the Moonlight Car Show and Street Party will take place this year on July 13 in downtown Wichita. It’s a great occasion for car and motorcycle lovers to gather and interact, and plenty of other fun activities will be part of the fun. Multiple live bands and DJs will play on different stages across the location, and local food trucks and three food courts will provide the meals. Many kids’ events will also take place, as well as a model car contest and a bicycle contest.
85th NBC World Series
The National Baseball Congress is based in Wichita and features 17 amateur and semi-professional baseball leagues across the United States and Canada. Since it was founded in 1934, it has organized an annual championship among all its members, which takes place at Wichita’s Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. It’s the perfect opportunity for locals and visitors alike to take part in America’s favorite pastime and enjoy some great games between teams all over the continent that are seeking a shot at the National Championship. This two-week event starts on July 27 and ends on Aug. 10.
Festivals are a great and fun way of spending time outdoors and interacting with the local community. If you choose any of these festivals happening in or around Wichita, you and your family and friends are guaranteed to have a good time and make long-lasting memories.
