The stylish Chevy Equinox fits into the compact crossover segment and offers an appealing ride for a broad range of drivers. The 2020 model gets a forward-collision warning as a standard feature in every trim level along with several other driver-assist safety technologies. The Engine Options

There are two engine options for the Equinox. The first is a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder with 170 horsepower, and the second is a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder. While both engines have plenty of power, the 2.0-liter provides stronger acceleration off-the-line. The 1.5-liter is the more fuel-efficient of the two with an EPA ration of 31 miles per gallon on the highway and 26 mpg in the city.

The Safety Features

All the Equinox models come with an impressive number of standard safety features. The list includes automatic high beam assist, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning with a mitigation system. Bumping up to the LT model gets you the option for the Convenience Package, which adds blind-spot monitoring, and the Premier adds the option for a 360-degree surround-view camera system. Choose the Premier for a 460-degree surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, and a safety alert driver’s seat.

The Models

There are four different trim levels available with the 2020 Equinox. The base L has LED daytime running lights, heated side door mirrors, and automatic headlights. A step up to the LS adds the option for a few packages, while the LT comes with high-intensity discharge headlights and the option for a panoramic sunroof as part of the Sun & Infotainment Package. You can also get 18-inch alloy wheels with this trim and dual chrome exhaust outlets. The Premier sits at the top of the lineup with a hands-free power liftgate, power-folding side mirrors, and LED headlights.

The Comfortable Cabin

Five people can ride in the Equinox, with plenty of space for both the front seat passengers and passengers in the back. Bumping up a few trims from the base to the LT gets you a leather-wrapped shift knob and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The Premier adds leather upholstery and heated seats, and the option for a ventilated driver’s seat and heated outboard rear seats if you add the Confidence and Convenience II package.

Technology

The Equinox comes with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot, the OnStar communications system, a 7-inch touch screen display, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Moving up through the trims adds additional technology, including a 120-volt power outlet, an upgraded version of the MyLink infotainment system, and an 8-inch touch screen. The Infotainment II Package is an available option for the Premier and comes with navigation, and an upgraded Bose stereo system with HD radio and seven speakers.
