Al’s Old and New Book Store LLC

Readers of all ages have flocked to Al’s Old and New Book Store since 1957. Now located downtown at 360 East William Suite 102, the store welcomes everyone looking for a good book. The store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. 

With more than 40,000 books available on various subjects in the store, you’re sure to find a new favorite. If you are looking for something that has been out of print for a while, ask the friendly staff to help you locate it. 

With expertise in old and new titles, the staff can order or locate a volume of older titles for you with a small deposit. Some of the genres they carry include classics, history, Presidential history, pets, westerns, mysteries, cooking, young adult, and science fiction, among others. You won’t find most just-released books at Al’s; you’re more likely to discover local talent and classic titles here.

Eighth Day Books

If you are looking for classic books about religion, arts, and culture, stop by Eighth Day Books. The store is on East Douglas. They are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store focuses on classics, arts, sciences, and humanities. You’ll be able to sit and explore many titles in each category. With older titles and up-and-coming authors hitting the shelves weekly, you’re sure to find your next spiritual or classic read at Eighth Day Books. 

Book-A-Holic

Owned by military veterans, Book-A-Holic is another fun, independent bookstore in Wichita. With three locations in different parts of the city, the stores are open seven days a week (Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.)The stores focus on used books as well as movies and music. You can sell your well-loved items to the store before or after you explore the shelves.

Plan to spend at least an hour at each of the locations as the stock, of over 80,000 items between the three locations, is always changing. They carry items in various genres, including books and toys for children. Teachers who shop the shelves can signup for a special rewards program.
