Trailering Technologies The 2020 models of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 are equipped with a new and expanded advanced trailering system that makes it both easier and safer to haul boats and trailers. For starters, there are now 15 unique camera views that provide a variety of angles for better viewing. The transparent trailer feature uses a tailgate-mounted camera to help you virtually see through your trailer when backing up, parking, making tight turns, or merging into traffic. It takes multiple images and stitches them together, giving it the appearance that you're seeing right through the trailer. There's also an additional socket on the bumper where you can plug in another camera so you can monitor your cargo while driving. Also available in 2020 Silverado models is the iN-Command control system from ASA Electronics. This can be accessed through the myChevrolet app on your smartphone or through the in-vehicle trailering app on your Silverado's infotainment system via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. The myChevrolet app includes trailering tools such as a pre-departure checklist, how-to videos, a glossary with trailer terms, and trailer light tests. In addition to the trailering information, the app also allows you to start or stop your engine, lock and unlock your doors, view diagnostic information, set parking reminders, and send your destination to your navigation system. The app syncs automatically, giving you up-to-date information at your fingertips. 2. Adaptive Cruise Control The 2020 Silverado is available with an adaptive cruise control camera. This system includes a high-mounted camera that is set behind the rearview mirror. The camera has sensors and scans the road ahead and uses algorithms and software to determine a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you. Once the distance is determined, it will maintain it for you as well. 3. Infotainment and Driver Information All trim levels of the 2020 Silverado now include a 7-inch touch screen as standard equipment. The infotainment system can be personalized to fit your needs and even has the functionality to allow a second driver to personalize it to their style as well. Additionally, you'll find Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, which allows you to access your favorite playlists, voicemail, text messages, live traffic information, lane guidance, and maps easily. Move up to the LT trim and you'll get a larger 8-inch touch screen with two additional USB ports and OnStar. You'll also have the advantage of a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot in your truck, so you can easily stay connected while on the go. Up to seven devices can be connected at once giving you access to the internet. Available extras in some trim levels include wireless smartphone charging and an upgraded audio system. An available 15-inch diagonal head-up display projects pertinent information directly on to the windshield. Information such as your vehicle's speed, active safety alerts, and navigation. 5 Tips to Save up for a New Car This Fall

If you're thinking about getting a new car this fall, you’ll probably want to start planning for it now. The more money you can save, the less you have to borrow when it's time to get your vehicle. This puts you in a stronger buying position. Use the following helpful tips so you'll be able to get your new car this fall. more 1. Choose Your Car Ahead of Time Before you can begin saving for your new car, you have to know how much money you actually need. Make a list of all the features you would like to have in your new vehicle. Include things like safety features, connectivity technology, interior comforts, and exterior conveniences. You can then start searching for a new car based on these wants and needs. When you decide which model you're interested in and you know how much it will cost, you have a goal to start saving toward. 2. Set up Automatic Savings Once you know how much money you need to save, it's time to actually start saving it. One of the best ways to do this is to set up a separate savings account just for your car. Decide how much money you want to put aside each paycheck or each month, and then create an automatic transfer to send that money into your savings account. Making your savings automatic will help you reach your goal because you won't be tempted to use it for other items. 3. Improve Your Credit Score After you have your savings account set up and you're putting money in it, you want to explore other ways you can save money. Improving your credit score is one step you can take. Good credit scores can help you qualify for a better interest rate on your car loan. To improve your credit score while you're saving money for your new car you should pay your bills on time, pay off your debt, keep low balances on your credit cards, and make sure there are no inaccuracies on your credit report. 4. Cut Back on Unnecessary Expenses Cutting back on any unnecessary expenses is another way you can save money for your new car. Start taking notes on everything you purchase and decide what you can reduce. For example, if you typically eat out five times a month, consider cutting back to three times a month and putting the money you save directly toward your new car. 5. Sell or Trade Your Current Vehicle When it's time to get your new car, you need to decide what to do with your old vehicle. If you sell it or trade it, you can also put that money toward your new car. While you'll likely get more money if you sell your car yourself instead of trading it in, you have to decide if that's worth the extra time and paperwork involved. If you're ready to buy a new car this fall, you can use these money-saving tips to make sure you have the cash saved up for the vehicle you want. Image via Flickr by 401(K) 2013 CC by SA-2.0

An SUV on a lift, having its wheel alignment assessed in Wichita, KS

Why Proper Alignment Is So Important for Your Tires

It's important to adjust alignment every six months, or even immediately if the car has suffered an impact. Tire alignment can be affected by normal use over time, if the car hits curbs or minor obstacles, or if it is in an accident. Professional maintenance is important for your car for several reasons. Here are a few. more Alignment Keeps You Safe If your wheels are poorly aligned and you let go of your wheel slightly, the car could veer left or right without your intention. This is unsafe. It means that your car is not driving in a steady, natural line and that its direction is not fully controlled. This creates a greater risk of slipping or veering into neighboring lanes. Alignment Can Maintain the Quality of Your Tires If tires are not aligned and they are left this way, this aspect could ruin the quality of the wheels over time. The wear is usually uneven across the tires so that one tire will be less effective than the other. This uneven wear can further impact the safety of the tires. Replacement is expensive, and if you can't afford to buy new tires, you're in danger while on the road. Even after replacing the tires, if professional alignment is not continually sought out, then the situation can repeat itself with each new set. The risk and cost of leaving your tires without an alignment is not worth the negligence. Alignment Can Maintain the Operation of Your Car The uneven pressure that is placed on the differently worn tires can make your car labor more extensively in order to maintain itself. This is due to the unparalleled or irregular tension created between the tires and the road, which makes driving less effective and thus takes a toll on the car's capacity. The car might have to work a lot harder to keep pace. This could also mean that fuel is burned at a faster rate. With fuel pricing so high, do you really want to spend more? Misaligned Tires Can Make Driving Uncomfortable Your car isn't the only thing that will feel the impact of misaligned or uneven tires. You might feel the impact as a driver. The most common experience is sensing a vibrational feeling on the steering wheel. It's also possible you could hear added noise as the tires clash against the road — this is especially true if the road is not very even. Plus, your steering wheel might slide freely if you are not paying attention to your grip. Likewise, the steering might just feel off or the wheel could drift toward different directions. Misalignment often goes without symptoms though. Therefore, catch any problems before they worsen by bringing your car to a pro. You might also want to check your tire pressure to see if there are any other signs of wear. There are many things you need to do when caring for your car, but how often do you have your tires aligned by a professional? You might wish to keep these reasons for correct alignment in mind and regularly visit your local mechanic. Image via Pixabay by danvolks99
